Day 14 | Surviving Buffets

I'm happy to report that today was a much better day, body wise. The day started off right and I was able to enjoy being away from home. I also bought a stool softener and beano to help with future digestion and elimination issues. The bottom line is that without the fat in my diet, my system is going to be sluggish a lot. I think it's up to me to minimize the side affects such as taking beano before I eat.

It was nice feeling more normal today - no bloat and irritability. I spent the day with my mother - we went to lunch and saw the movie, Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps. It was a good movie and better than I expected.

Food

Today was very different because I had 2 meals at restaurants with buffets. The first was Soup Plantation and that was very easy for me because I can have a great mixed salad with their fat free dressing, a plain baked potato with a house made tomato, onion, cilantro and jalapeno salsa and then top it all off with fresh fruit - delicious!

Dinner was more of a challenge because the buffet was multi-ethnic and not geared toward vegetarians/vegans or people who don't eat fat. I asked a lot of questions and was able to eat plain white rice with a sweet soy based sauce on it. I also had edamame, salad and fruit. I wasn't about to eat anything I wasn't supposed to but there were so many temptations. As usual, I decided to focus on what I could eat, not what I couldn't and everything worked out perfectly.

I made a commitment to myself today to start meal planning and controlling portions. I also am committing to adding 30-60 minutes of cardio exercise every day. I'm eating healthy now but I think I need to step it up by looking at the total health - right-size meals throughout the day and exercise.

What I ate today:
  • Ezekiel toast with tart cherry jam
  • Bean dip with celery stalks
  • Mixed vegie salad w/FF honey dijon dressing
  • Small baked potato with fresh tomato, onion, cilantro and jalapeno salsa
  • Rice crackers
  • Rye crackers
  • Pickle spears
  • Salad with sweet soy sauce dressing (fat free)
  • White rice with sweet soy sauce
  • Edamame with sweet soy sauce (see the theme?)
  • Watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple and strawberries
